What Maintenance Does Permanent LED Lighting Need?

Brick house peaks in daylight with the pixel rail seated discreetly under the soffit against a blue sky

None. That is the honest answer, and it is shorter than most people expect: no bulbs to change, no strings to untangle or box up, nothing to wash, nothing to re-seal each spring. The system stays on the house, powered, twelve months a year.

The only two things you are likely to touch in a decade are the control box after a power outage, and the app after you change routers.

Quick reference

  • Bulbs to replace: none
  • Seasonal cleaning: none
  • Fall takedown or spring setup: none
  • After a power outage: the controller restarts on its own; if it does not, unplug the control box and plug it back in
  • New router or new password: reconnect in the app
  • Once a year: turn the whole facade on and check that all of it lights

Why there is nothing to maintain

Because nothing in the system is a consumable. An LED does not burn out; it fades, very slowly, and the U.S. Department of Energy measures that fade as the number of operating hours until it emits 70% of its initial light output. There is no part on a replacement schedule.

The rail sits inside the soffit with zero exposed wire. There is no bead of silicone to redo, no clip to re-screw, no extension cord to drag out of the garage. Rain and snow pass in front of it, not through it.

The power outage

This is the common one, and in almost every case there is nothing to do. The controller restarts by itself when power comes back and picks the schedule up where it left off.

If the facade is still dark after the power returns, unplug the control box, wait a few seconds, plug it back in. That is the whole procedure. The box usually lives in the garage or the basement near the panel — find it on install day, not during a storm.

The Wi-Fi change

New router, new provider, changed password: the system loses its connection and has to be reconnected in the app. The lights keep running their schedule while that is true — it is the remote control that drops, not the lighting.

Reconnecting takes a few minutes and there is a step-by-step video on our YouTube channel. It is also the only item on this page that the warranty does not cover: Wi-Fi, network and software-compatibility issues are excluded, because they come from your network rather than the hardware.

The one check worth doing

Once a year, turn the whole facade on and look at it from the street. You are checking one thing: does all of it light?

That is the real limitation of a system this quiet and this invisible — a single dark point in a back peak can go unnoticed for months if nobody ever looks. A yearly glance from the sidewalk covers it, and it is the moment to call if something is missing, while the three-year labour warranty is still running. The services overview lays out what is covered and for how long.

What you stop doing

No ladder in December. No testing a string of lights one bulb at a time on the living room floor. No extension cords in the snow, no clips letting go on the first thaw. Christmas, Halloween and Saint-Jean scenes change from the app — same install, different program. Our holiday lighting page shows what that looks like.

Indoors it works the same way. A warm-white cove in a bedroom asks nothing of you either, beyond dusting it with the rest of the trim. The interior lighting page walks through the rooms.

Common questions

Do I need to clean the rail in spring? No. It sits under the roof overhang and takes neither driving rain nor direct sun. If you wash the facade, just avoid aiming a pressure washer straight up into the soffit.

Can snow or ice damage it? The hardware is rated IP68 and −40°C and stays outside all year. Damage from storms and other extreme weather events is excluded from the warranty, though.

What if one point stays dark? Call (450) 999-7258. In the first three years the part and the visit are both covered. After that the part stays covered on its schedule and the visit is billed hourly.

Do I have to update the app? Yes, the same way you update anything else on your phone. That is the only software maintenance and it takes as long as a download.

Does it draw power when it is off? The controller stays powered so it can hold the time and the schedule. That is standby draw, comparable to other small electronics left plugged in. More answers of this kind are in the FAQ.
